Beware of Tom Tancredo

This is what living in fear gets you:

White House hopeful Tom Tancredo said Thursday the existence of the Congressional Black Caucus and other race-based groups of lawmakers amount to segregation and should be abolished.

``It is utterly hypocritical for Congress to extol the virtues of a colorblind society while officially sanctioning caucuses that are based solely on race,'' said the Colorado Republican, who is most widely known as a vocal critic of illegal immigration.

``If we are serious about achieving the goal of a colorblind society, Congress should lead by example and end these divisive, race-based caucuses,'' said Tancredo, who is scheduled to pitch his long-shot presidential bid this weekend in New Hampshire.

What a racist putz. He doesn't want nonwhite immigrants to come into this country, and he doesn't want nonwhite Americans in this country to gather. Someone needs to tell this guy that it's 2007, or better yet, Colorado needs to seriously consider another representative.

Here's my response that I posted at Think Progress:

Tancredo has a point. Yes the Congressional Black Caucus should be abolished and I’m sure it will be. On the same day when people of color receive equal pay for equal work…when racial profiling is eliminated…when public education is properly funded, adequately equipped, and totally supported…when infant mortality rates are the lowest among industrialized countries…when precincts in African-American have sufficient voting machines that work and all of the ballots there are accurately counted…when redlining no longer occurs…when little Black boys and girls aren’t placed in special ed or told they can’t learn…when dumpsites and hazardous waste sites are no longer placed in or near predominantly African-American communities…when rich cartels stop selling drugs in the Black community…when for every mininum wage increase, Congress takes a $10,000 pay cut…when states in the Deep South are forced to provide a quality education, decent housing, and competent health care for all their citizens…when the FBI stops spying on African-American citizens and stops infiltrating African-American organizations…when the Constitution prohibits citizens from freely assembling themselves…when the words of the Constitution fairly and equally apply to all American citizens, regardless of color or ethnic origin. But until then, the Congressional Black Caucus must speak for a those who are disadvantaged in so many ways. Until then, Tancredo can keeping on wearing his his hood and robe to midnight meetings of the KKK. What an a$$hole!
