LOST: I Am The Brotha Electric

While I usually reserve this talk for the various sections, this episode was just too good to segment in such a way (even with a heavy help of Pace). I mean, think about it: Desmond Hume, The Reality Leaper! Sure, Daniel, Charlie and even Eloise knew there was something about their world (aka the X-world) that's off, but Desmond seems to be the only one who can conclusively prove it.

More to the point, it's made both Humes seemingly at peace. Remember how Island Hume was so frantic and X-world Hume was distant-yet-content? After one of them got jolted, they both changed: now Island Hume's in nirvana and X-world Hume is on a mission. And the fans at Slate are pretty on the money in saying that Desmond's character helps make the episode flow better.

DISCOVERIES
  1. As hinted at earlier, there are characters in the X-world who realize that something's wrong.
  2. Widmore knew about Desmond's involvement with "the button."
  3. The Dhrama Initiative built a giant electromagnet on the sister island.
  4. Penny does not use her father's last name, but Daniel does.
OBSERVATIONS
  1. Whatever Sayid's original mission was, it's been changed to include Desmond.
  2. X-Charlie is really suicidal.
  3. Characters with "missed out" relationships -Charlie, Desmond and Daniel- all appear in the same episode.
  4. Even though they both tell Desmond (in their own way) that something is wrong with their world, Daniel and Charlie never meet (they never met in the regular timeline as well).
QUESTIONS
  1. Why did Widmore's people take Jin? They obviously didn't need him for their experiment on Desmond, and it's difficult to believe that any technical/mechanical experience he gained in the late 1970's (while also learning English, mind you) would be that beneficial to people in 2007.
  2. Why does X-Hume feel the need to bring people from the Flight together?
  3. How did Widmore's team power the electromagnet? that thing has to use up a lot of juice.
