Layoffs In America...

Google threatens to fire more employees if they don't show up in person at least three days a week. Less business from Amazon causes UPS to fire 20,000 employees .  Everything's bigger in Texas, including the job loss .  Transportation companies are facing a double-whammy of layoffs and bankruptcies .  Hope people in California weren't too attached to their wine .  School bus company in Pennsylvania to cut 70 employees.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Tries To Do Right Thing (But Messes Up); CNN Forgets To Mention His Political Past

So Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to fill what he thought was a pothole . In reality it wasn't , but instead of focusing on that, CNN chose to mock him using his famous movies roles, while omitting the fact that they guy was also the Governor of California at one point.

How Easy Is It To Infiltrate the Police?

As this excerpt from a CNN story about a former VA Officer-turned-multiple murder shows, very easy : Edwards was hired by the Washington County, Virginia, Sheriff’s Office on November 16, the office said in a news release. He had recently begun orientation to be assigned to the patrol division. “It is shocking and sad to the entire law enforcement community that such an evil and wicked person could infiltrate law enforcement while concealing his true identity as a computer predator and murderer,” Washington County Sheriff Blake Andis said in the release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Winek family, their friends, officers, and all of those affected by this heinous crime.” Before being hired in Washington County, Edwards had resigned as a trooper with the Virginia State Police on October 28, the agency told CNN in an email. Edwards, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, entered the academy in July 2021 and graduated January 2022, after which he was assigned to Henrico County wi...

The 1984 Election Highlighted The Thin Line Between Democrats and Republicans (And Why the Electoral Collage is Trash)

Image
As we near the mid-terms and after that the inevitable politics-as-sports push to support either Democrats or Republicans for 2024, people will get in front of cameras and microphones and try to convince you that there are stark differences between the parties.  Now while anyone who's been through at least three difference presidents ( or just pays attention ) can debunk this (for pretty much the lifespan of every American, none of us have experience three back-to-back-to-back Democratic or Republican presidents) we sadly have a country full of short memories and easily propagandized psyches.  Case in Point: the 1984 Presidential Election : Reagan won in an electoral college landslide and with 58% of the popular vote. As in most elections, you can trace some of that other 42% to counties that are heavily urban, but as the map suggests, Reagan enjoyed crazy crossover appeal. (Let's pause here real quick to remind everyone that Reagan was the last major politician before ...

Another Protest in America You Probably Don't Hear Much About...

This one involves truckers in California: LOS ANGELES, July 20 (Reuters) - Protests against a new California labor law that makes it harder for independent truckers to operate on Wednesday ground operations at the state's third-busiest seaport to a virtual halt, crimping a major artery in the U.S. supply chain. SSA Marine, which manages the largest terminal at the Port of Oakland, in the San Francisco Bay Area, decided to close operations due to the independent trucker protest, port spokesman Robert Bernardo told Reuters. The other marine terminals are effectively shut down for trucks, said Bernardo, adding that some vessel labor operations are under way. SSA and Everport terminal managers sent International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) dock workers home for safety reasons, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday. TraPac on its website said its terminal would be closed for the first shift because protests were interfering with the entrance gate. Represe...

The Transition From Democracy to "Politics as Sport" Is Almost Complete in America

Image
We're in a time where we have two very solid candidates (Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard) running in the Democratic Primary. They have the appeal of the (true) base, young Democrats, independent voters even some Republicans. The are running on concrete and popular policies. In other words, they have what overpaid pundits would call, "elect-ability." Nevertheless, candidates like Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren are polling better than them in a number of polls. Why? One reason is because the establishment Democrats portray Sanders and Tulsi as outsiders despite Sanders running on a modern-day FDR platform and Gabbard being a Congresswoman in the Democratic Party. Why the portrayal? Because neither Sanders nor Gabbard follow the establishment mantra. They challenge Democratic donors. They speak against the Military Industrial Complex. They are not "team players." Progressives advocate (to varying degrees) progressive candidates taking ...
