Real Quick Review: If you ever wondered what would happen if Star Wars, Star Trek and Harry Potter crossed over, it's Thor: The Dark World. In Context Review: It's probably in the top ten of the best movies based on Marvel characters, in the top five of MCU movies, and certainly an upgrade from Thor (with less Shakespearean flare). My Review: Most people expect movies that come out in the fall to be more dramatic (I will always say that this is why the first Hulk movie went over so badly; it was a drama being shown during popcorn-season) but this second installment of Thor's adventures could easily be seen as last-minute entry for summer 2013. Reason #1 for this is the main villain's motivation: Malekith, leader of the Dark Elves (Christopher Eccleston) apparently liked it when everything in the universe was literally dark and wants to use the super-McGuffin known as the Aether to put things back that way. Last anyone saw him, Thor's (Chris Hemsworth) grandpa ...

I don't think this story will be the plot to the movie sequel.

Apparently some people believes that a black Englishmen can't play Nordic Gods in a movie based on comic book characters. CA has the story on these racists .

Trailer here . Pics here . Some notes: It has a "Lion King" feel to it, but if you remember what the studio had said before , that's not surprising. Having Thor explain how Asgard powers work (a mixture of what we would call "magic" and "science") was interesting. Loki doing nothing really evil...makes me think that they're hiding the good stuff. The diversity in casting. Sure there will be some whiners complaining that all of the Norse gods aren't white, but I'm sure they'll die down by the time the movie comes out. And as a bonus, there's a new Avengers cartoon trailer .

Oh yeah .

'Incredible Hulk' proved that once again it's hard to make a movie where the "hero" is not only one of comcidom's strongest characters, but he could really care less about being heroic. 'Iron Man' was decent, but other than the "science vs. magic" angle, his rogue gallery sucks. 'Captain America' well need alot of work now that 'Superman' is (cinematically?) attributed as "America's Superhero." Don't even talk to me about Ant Man or Hawkeye. That leaves the Thor as being the last heavy hitter around to justify an Avengers movie; if it doesn't pan out, they might as well make sequels for the others. Also, I strongly believe that if an Avengers movie doesn't happen, neither will a Justice League movie (seriously, is Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash more popular than Thor?).
