I've been working on the idea that the basic function of management is to facilitate the production worker, thus making a business more productive and so more profitable. Unfortunately, many management seem to see production workers as facilitating the lives of management, which benefits management more than it does the company.
I see this as typical of the usual human pattern with aristocracy, and if I could use my words better I'd write it up (after a bit more research and a lot more thinking, that is). That picture says it pretty well, though.
