Hillary Clinton Is Just Too Status Quo For Her Own Good
First, read this, watch this and read this to see where I'm coming from.
The common thread here is Clinton has accepted the world we live in to a degree, and is shocked whenever someone does something or says something that doesn't fit the narrative. Whether it's a news organization's goal of ratings/profits, young voters being enamored with Bernie Sanders, or completely toning down her religious leanings, Clinton is seeing everything from a perspective of The Status Quo.
For those who don't know, politically-speaking The Status Quo says that the Affordable Care Act (aka, Obamacare) isn't perfect but it's the best Americans can hope for. TSQ says that the police are just doing their job, and if minorities (and the occasional white woman) are harassed or even killed, it's all for the greater good. TSQ says that all registered Democrats must support anyone with a "D" next to their name because the Republicans are mean and naughty. TSQ says that climate change is debatable. TSQ says that lobbyists and corporate cash in politics is normal. TSQ says that is you're working a McJob or even a middle-income 9-to-5 and you'll struggling to pay rent, the bills, health costs and food, then it's you're fault. TSQ says that we'll always be in some kind of conflict or war with a country (or two or three), but don't worry about the specifics (**cough-cough** PETRODOLLAR **cough-cough** NATURAL RESOURCES).
Funny how the two most anti-TSQ presidential candidates from 2016 were Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders. Trump promised jobs for coal workers, the end of NAFTA, and less wars. Bernie campaigned on universal health care, a higher minimum wage and free college. Now sure, Trump was mostly lying and Sanders isn't technically with either party, so Defenders of the Status Quo were justified in being pessimistic. But...it's not what the political gurus and pundits believe, it's what the voters believe. And what the voters believed is that the country needed a president who was the antithesis of the Status Quo.
Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, embraced the title of being Goddess of the Status Quo. And let's get this out of the way: the only difference between her and most of her peers was her being a woman. Politically-speaking, she is not much different from Chuck Schumer or her own husband. And for people thinking that her being a woman hindered her to a great degree, remember that Sarah Palin was almost a heartbeat away from being in the Oval Office.
In the end, Clinton really didn't do anything to stand out (if she was named "Melinda Platter," had no connections to the DNC and was like some Governor of a small state or from the House or Representatives, would her message still resonate?). She embraced the world as it was and gave lip service to trying to make it a little better for some people. She was the "good enough" candidate in a time where "good enough" was no longer "good enough."
