CT State Police Ticketing Scandal Lawsuit Expands

Looks like the media is getting involved : A judge granted a motion by the Connecticut Mirror and The Day newspaper of New London to intervene in a lawsuit that could decide whether the Connecticut State Police release the names of troopers who are under investigation for allegedly falsifying or failing to report information on traffic stops. Superior Court Judge Rupal Shah issued an order on Monday granting the media organizations’ request to participate in the lawsuit, which was initiated by the Connecticut State Police Union in order to prevent the state from disclosing the names and badge numbers of more than a hundred state troopers. An audit performed by the Connecticut Racial Profiling Prohibition Project, which collects data detailing the race and ethnicity of people who are pulled over by police in the state, identified roughly 130 current and former state troopers who had a significant number of traffic stops between 2014 and 2021 that could not be corroborated using other da...

Pay special attention to  the quick explanation of how words like, "political correctness" and "woke" have been hijacked:

Quote of the Day

“ So if what I am being criticized for is doing something to protect people that did not have a voice for themselves, I sit in that criticism, and y’all can put it in my obituary. ” - District Attorney Fani Willis defending the prosecution and jailing of Black educators. Despite her race, the person heading the prosecution of Donald Trump is no ally to Black America :  Who was Fani Willis protecting when she used Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) statute to put twelve Black educators on trial in 2015? Atlanta, like other major cities, was not caught up in the corrupt influence of racketeers, but of school test score mania. The No Child Left Behind Act punished school districts with low scores, putting them at risk of state takeovers, or of schools being closed. Educators in Georgia, 38 other states and the District of Columbia , succumbed to these pressures and changed test scores to give the appearance that children had reached educational attainment ...

Theft Is Apparently a Big Problem For Dollar Tree

A franchise one known for selling most things for $1.00 is facing some interesting challenges : Dollar Tree had a miserable quarter, and company management is chalking it up to a mix of factors: changing consumer demands on top of higher prices for fuel and electricity … and theft. The company’s chief executive and chief financial officer homed in on that last one on a call with Wall Street analysts Thursday. Dollar Tree CEO Richard Dreiling and CFO Jeffrey Davis blamed a surprisingly large drop in gross profit margin — tumbling to 29.8% last quarter from 32.7% a year earlier — on “shrink,” the industry term for inventory losses due to theft, damages and other causes. Davis said the company has taken steps to fix the problem, but the shrink issue is getting worse — and “definitely advanced a little further than what we had anticipated.” In response, Dreiling said Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores, which the company also owns, will take more drastic measures in the coming months...

Bill Kristol-Backed Pro-Ukraine War GOP Group Exposed.

Hedging their bets in case the White House changes hands? Defending Democracy Together, a neoconservative outfit led by career chickenhawk scribe Bill Kristol, has launched a new initiative called “Republicans for Ukraine” to transform the 2024 presidential election into a referendum on US funding for the NATO proxy war.  Urging Republicans in Congress to support more funding for Ukraine in the upcoming appropriations bill is also a key item on the agenda. Kristol had defined himself as a leader of the Republican Party’s neoconservative faction, bashing isolationist and antiwar GOP figures on the pages of his now-defunct Weekly Standard magazine while laying the intellectual groundwork for the invasion of Iraq through his Project for a New American Century.  [SKIP] If Defending Democracy Together’s short history is any indication, the “Republicans for Ukraine” initiative may actually be powered by money from top supporters of the Democratic Party and the ultimate archit...

Kyle Kulinski is a supporter of Marianne Williamson (she officiated his wedding with Krystal Ball). Katie Halper is, at worst, an ally (she was also at the wedding). When Williamson was interviewed by Bill Maher, she made enough left-like points for both Kulinski and Halper to highlight: What Halper and Kulinski both failed to cover was Williamson's appearance on Jimmy Dore: In other words, it's easy to portray Williamson as an ally of the Left when she's talking to an out-of-touch pro-establishment quasi-libertarian. It's much hard to do so when she's talking to a pro-worker, anti-war comedian who still interacts with the people.

Six Mississippi Police Officers (Some Who Called THEMSELVES "The Goon Squad) On Trial For Torturing Two Black Men

Image
According to reports, these six officers went to confront two Black men who were staying with a White woman (who also happened to be a neighbor to one of the officers). Despite being there to help the owner, the Black men were accused of dealing drugs. They were tasered, beaten, had various food/cooking liquids poured on them, threatened with sodomy (via a dildo placed on a gun) and humiliated . Even with the officers being taken to court, this is still a very obviously racially-motivated crime .  And just a reminder that these incidents can escalate without Cop Watchers:

Connecticut's Ticket Issue Bumped Up to Feds.

Very interesting development : Gov. Ned Lamont on Monday backed the chief state’s attorney’s decision to hand over to federal authorities a criminal investigation into state police who allegedly submitted tens of thousands of phony traffic stop tickets to Connecticut’s racial profiling database.  “I think it’s appropriate,” Lamont said. “I think Pat Griffin, the state’s attorney, thought it was important to step back and let them. We’re gonna coordinate in any way we can, be absolutely forthcoming, no stone left unturned.”  The governor’s comments were in response to a recent statement from Griffin, Connecticut’s top prosecutor, who first told WTNH News 8 that he has relinquished control of the criminal probe into the potential wrongdoing to the U.S. Department of Justice. “I think DOJ brings the tools and the resources necessary to conduct this investigation, on the one hand. On the other, I think that the investigation will be thorough,” Griffin said. “I think that it will b...

Zoom to Employees: Get Back to the Office

Even the company behind virtual meetings doesn't seem immune : Zoom, the company that powered the remote work revolution during the pandemic, is telling its employees to come back to the office. In a statement, Zoom said it’s now enforcing a “structured hybrid approach,” meaning that employees who live near an office must return to to it for a “set number of days” because it’s “most effective” for the video-conferencing service. “As a company, we are in a better position to use our own technologies, continue to innovate, and support our global customers. We’ll continue to leverage the entire Zoom platform to keep our employees and dispersed teams connected and working efficiently,” the company said. Putting aside the irony, Zoom isn’t excluded from the return to office trend that’s sweeping tech companies. In recent months, Google, Amazon and Salesforce have enacted similar policies, ending a Covid-era approach that gave employees more freedom to work from home. However, businesse...

Sinead O'Connor Was Ahead of Her Time

No just about the Catholic Church, but about police killing black people : O’Connor took responsibility, raising issues years—even decades—before others who had her level of prominence began to address them. Such was the case with what many argue was her greatest song, “Black Boys on Mopeds.” A cry against the killing of Black teenagers and young men by police officers, the song was recorded more than 30 years before the murder of George Floyd inspired millions to take to the streets in Black Lives Matter protests against police violence. Written in the late 1980s, the song was released on O’Connor’s internationally acclaimed 1990 album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got—which, despite her protests, was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1991 and took top honors for Best Alternative Music Performance.
