President Trump Places The District of Columbia Under Federal Control.

Image
From the AP : President Donald Trump said Monday he’s placing the Washington, D.C., police department under federal control and deploying the National Guard to make the nation’s capital safer. Trump has promised new steps to tackle homelessness and crime in Washington, prompting the city’s mayor to voice concerns about the potential use of the National Guard to patrol the streets. Ahead of a news conference, Trump said Monday on social media that the nation’s capital would be “LIBERATED today!” He said he would end the “days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people.” Yes; much like his initial swing at tariffs , Trump called this " liberation day ." Also: yes; crime is at a 30-year low .  Is this the beginning of the "Gaza-fication" of the US capitol? Or simply a variation of when "city managers" took over Flint, Michigan ( and caused the water crisis )? Hard Lens Media has more:

Odd Statues Show Up In DC. CNN Was Clueless; NPR Did Real Investigating.

Image
According to CNN , no one knows where they came from or who's behind it. Maybe they should talk to their journalistic counterparts over at NPR, because they did some actual research : The National Park Service originally granted a permit to a group called Civic Crafted LLC to display the statue until Wednesday evening, but later extended it an extra week through the evening of Nov. 6 — the day after Election Day. NPR has reached out to the woman named in the permit. According to the permit shared with NPR, the statue is called The Resolute Desk and is meant to represent the heart of democracy. "Here, the power of the people finds its expression through the diligent efforts of those who serve the public good," it says. "When rioters broke in to destroy these ideals, this desk stands firm, so too must the principles of equality, justice and freedom that it represents." For the record: Washington, DC has " nearly 28,00 private security cameras ," inclu...

People Go to DC For The "Red Line Protest"

Image

On "Rage Against the War Machine"

There is a "Wage Against the War Machine" Rally coming to Washington, DC on Sunday, 2/19/23. There's a website with all the relevant information .  There has been some...pushback because it appears that the "left" and the "right" are "uniting" behind this event. People more astute than myself have made cases for and against participating.  Not really going to touch this argument on the merits; people of various political beliefs can be anti-war and if they choose to join under that particular banner and such joining can bare fruit, than fine.  My hesitation to either commend or condemn the event wholesale is due to a few factors: The "left" isn't unified itself on enough issues . Whether it's those who are more socialist who disagree with the social democrats on FTV, the railroad strike debacle or funding Ukraine or those who lean more Marx versus those who lean more Trotsky, the left hasn't come to much of a consensus...

Cops Tend to Arrest Protesters Who Don't Have Connections

Image
Sure, members of the Squad slept outside the Capitol to get the eviction moratorium extended .  Problem is, the "Fight the System" mystique of their actions faded the moment  Chuck Schumer showed up. And let's not forget that going up against Nancy Pelosi is still considered a "no-no." Also, there was a good chance that the courts would get involved , since the best solution was for Congress to make an actual law (which as lawmakers, the Squad could have done anytime before the break).  Well, members of the People's Party , along with Jackson Hinkle, Lee Camp and Afeni from (Fred Hampton Leftists) decided to hold a no-elected official version. Ultimately, less people showed up than the Squad's protest, which makes one wonder why some of them were arrested:   Just to be clear: Afeni and Lee Camp were not arrested; but Nick Brana , Martin Gugino , Jackson Hinkle and Paula Jean Swearengin were.  Interesting how when more than triple the number showed...

Blue-Collar Scholars

Looks like some college-educated students have decided to go into trades : They started out studying aerospace engineering, creative writing and urban planning. But somewhere on the path to accumulating academic credentials, they decided that working with their hands sounded more pleasant -- and lucrative -- than a lot of white-collar work. So bye-bye to term papers and graduate theses, and hello to apprenticeships to become plumbers, electricians, auto mechanics and carpenters. For Osielski, the attraction was natural. After graduating from Notre Dame, he spent two years in Haiti working with a charity building schools, but he wasn't allowed to do the one task that seemed most intriguing: wiring the electricity. When he returned from Haiti, he began working as a furniture mover in the District to pay the bills and discovered the satisfaction that comes with an empty truck at the end of a day. A legal career seemed too much like drudgery. "I have friends my a...

Right On The Money

Jamison Foser hits it : Today, more than 200 years after the Boston Tea Party, United States citizens who live in their nation's capital are subject to taxation without representation. Actual taxation without representation. Not the "my elected officials aren't doing what I want" kind; the "I don't have elected officials" kind. The kind that led colonists in Massachusetts to flavor the Boston Harbor. Now, here's the amazing part: Every major news organization in the country covered Wednesday's tea parties. And, in doing so, they all ignored the fact that residents of Washington, D.C., are subject to the very conditions that led to the Boston Tea Party. Damn right. I don't recall anyone on FoxNews calling for revolution when President Bush had the "No Taxation Without Representation" licenses removed from his limos (Clinton had them added to show support for D.C. residents). But because President Obama asked, asked, for some accounta...
