Secular Talk Confuses "Based" With "Basic" When Discussing Kamala Harris' "Economic Plan"

Image
Such a wonderful plan that it's not (as of this posting) on her campaign website, huh? But let's just address the "high points" on the screenshot: $25,0000 Subsidy for First-Time Homebuyers . There are currently around 15.1 million vacant homes in the US , so it's not because of a lack of available housing. Also the median sale prices for new homes is $417,300 (for those in the US, check on what it is in your state ). So even if this tepid offer allowed all 1 million people to get a house, there's still over 14 million empty homes. And this doesn't begin to address the people who lost their homes when the housing market collapsed in 2008 . This plan only sounds good if you haven't been following politics since 2004.  $6,000 Child Tax Credits . The average cost of having a child in the United States is $18,865 . Good luck finding the remaining $12,865 when the median income is around $48k . Again: it helps, but not enough.  Elimination of Medical Debt...

Professor Wolff on Capitalism's Contradictions

Image
One highlighted contradiction: If you don't pay your workers enough, they can't in turn buy your goods and/or services:

Once Again, "Bipartisanship" = "Pass the Bill Without Debate"

Image
C-SPAN clip here . In other words: "Don't debate or try to make this bill any better for the American worker. We need to screw them over to keep the status quo going." And notice how this is always about "solving the problem" just long enough to have another mid-term or presidential election; it's never about finding a permanent solution.  BONUS: Apparently, Chuck Schumer also lied about the Mountain Valley Pipeline being part of the "deal":

This Loan Forgiveness Is a Big Deal!

I'm speaking of course about how China is forgiving 23 loans for 17 African countries : The Chinese government has announced that it is forgiving 23 interest-free loans for 17 African nations, while pledging to deepen its collaboration with the continent. This is in addition to China’s cancellation of more than $3.4 billion in debt and restructuring of around $15 billion of debt in Africa between 2000 and 2019. While Beijing has a repeated history of forgiving loans like this, Western governments have made baseless, politically motivated accusations that China uses “debt-trap diplomacy” in the Global South. The United States has turned Africa into a battleground in its new cold war on China and Russia. And Washington has weaponized dubious claims of Chinese “debt traps” to try to demonize Beijing for its substantial infrastructure projects on the continent. For its part, China has pushed back against the US new cold war. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting with leaders...

"Bi-Partisan Consensus-Builder" Joe Biden Blames GOP For Lackluster Presidency

It should be clear to most that the reason Joe Biden has low poll numbers is not only did he not push for things his party's base wanted (Medicare For All, student debt forgiveness) but he failed on things he said he would do ($15 minimum wage, $2,000 stimulus checks). And that's not even going into how his Administration threw up their hands after a tepid COVID-19 vaccine rollout, his photo op that passed as troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Russian saber-rattling and soft support for Ukrainian Nazis that led to a new war in Europe or the inflation that came as a result of that mess. Nevertheless, it wasn't supposed to be a problem for Joe Biden. Out of all of the Democratic primary candidates for 2020, he was the one who could reach across the aisle and work with the GOP to get things done (never mind that this was also the claim of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama when they either campaigned or got elected). Of course, we know how this song ends. The Democrats claim t...

CNN's Website Is Problematic

Image
I don't fault CNN for having a food section, or even for their celebrity journalists for having recipes, but considering all the things that are going on in the world, like: Julian Assange War Sanctions against other Counties (which is basically a declaration of war) Or things going on in America (in addition to the above): Police Brutality/Militarization of Law Enforcement People Trapped in Student Loan/Credit Card/Medical Debt Homeless Crisis Flawed Healthcare System Increasing Infringements on Speech ( currently being disguised as "protection" ) Continued Deregulation Crusade Against Worker's Rights Institutional Racism Media Consolidation The Defunding of our Educational System Or heck, even positive things like: Steven Donziger leaving jail ( but still being under house arrest) The first (and second) Starbucks Union Democratic Elections in the Global South They decide to put a section of their celebrity journalist's personal recipes on the front page of t...

College is the New High School...

...and it makes sense that college tuition is reduced or even free as we go forward. So congrats to New York , (even though this is certainly a power move for Cuomo to position himself as a 2020 presidential candidate). Especially since companies like Navient is making a killing approving loans to students they have no business approving .
