  Via Newsweek : The House of Representatives has voted to block an effort by Republican Representative Nancy Mace to make public all congressional sexual misconduct and harassment reports, effectively killing the proposal. In a 357-65 vote on Wednesday, the House moved to refer Mace's resolution to the House Ethics Committee—a procedural step that halted the measure. A spokeswoman for Mace directed Newsweek toward the congresswoman's public statement and posts on X when approached for comment. In her statement, Mace said: "The victims deserved better. The American people deserved better. Every member who voted to keep these records buried voted to protect power over people. We won't let it go and neither should you."

Via CNN : With just days until Election Day, hundreds of ballots were destroyed by fires this week at two ballot drop boxes in the Pacific Northwest, and investigators are searching for a culprit they say is responsible for both. Many of the ballots in a drop box in Portland were unaffected, but hundreds of ballots were destroyed in a second ballot box fire in nearby Vancouver, Washington, election officials said. The incidents are believed to be related to a third incident earlier this month in Vancouver. The incidents come as a US Department of Homeland Security bulletin from September obtained by the watchdog group Property of the People warned, “Some social media users are discussing and encouraging various methods of sabotaging ballot drop boxes and avoiding detection, likely heightening the potential for targeting of this election infrastructure through the 2024 election cycle. “Election infrastructure remains an attractive target for some domestic violent extremists and other th...

 

Why even bother with primaries if  so many  (from this sample) just want the party leadership (most who aren't elected themselves) to pick the nominee? There's still time for the people to make a decision, but no, they prefer that the choice be made in the shadows without so much as a debate. (Note: this is a "national sample of 1,071 registered voters" and about 33% of registered voters -a little over 53 million- are Democrats).

Saturday’s voice to parliament referendum failed, with the defeat clear shortly after polls closed. To succeed, the yes campaign – advocating for the voice – needed to secure a double majority, meaning it needed both a majority of the national vote, as well as majorities in four of Australia’s six states. The GOP strategist had some choice things to say about young voters : “They basically put the polling place next to the student dorm so they just have to roll out of bed, vote, and go back to bed,” she said at one point. She also took aim at the use of same-day voter registration by students in Michigan last fall. “There were hundreds of votes that were cast by students who were registered after the deadline, after the polls closed,” Mitchell alleged , adding, “but those ballots all still counted.” Just in case you wanna see/hear it: video & audio !

  A lifelong Democrat can switch parties so she can vote for Liz Cheney to "save" democracy . Let's be clear about a few things: If American democracy depends on one congressional seat, America is in trouble. If American democracy depends on the only congressional seat Wyoming, America is in real trouble. If American democracy depends on Liz Cheney winning a congressional seat , America is in serious trouble. Where are the Democrats calling this voter a traitor for switching parties? Where are the accusations of working with the enemy or inciting a "red-brown alliance?" Why is it OK for Democrats to work with elected Republicans, but not with Republican supporters/voters? If Democrats and Republicans are such enemies, why is it so easy to switch parties? Why is it easier to go from Democrat to Republican (or vice versa) than to register a third party?

 Apparently, many of them have enough outlets to ignore the likes of Reuters and AP . 

 Anyone or any group who is anti-war, advocating for the working class, fighting for ballot initiatives and/or rank choice voting, or pushing for programs like mutual aid need to understand that the current elected officials in office are not there to help you . The party will always come first. 

 Not good news considering he needed them to win his election: (CNN)Just 41% of young Americans approve of President Joe Biden's job performance, according to a new Harvard Institute of Politics poll of adults ages 18-29 released on Monday. That's down from 46% in fall 2021 and a 59% majority last spring -- a trend also seen in other recent surveys. By comparison, according to past Harvard IOP polling, only 25% of young Americans approved of then-President Donald Trump heading into the 2018 midterm cycle. Twelve years ago, however, 56% approved of then-President Barack Obama ahead of the first midterm cycle of his presidency, when Democrats went on to lose the House in 2010. Senators were asked to vote by last name alphabetically. At 53-46 Yea-to-Nay, the Senate was waiting for Rand Paul. He came in about 10 minutes later to give his "No." Lindsey Graham did not vote when his name came up (he did after Jackson passed 50 "Yea" votes. The speeches from each party were more or less predictable. Republicans expressed skepticism that Jackson could avoid "legislating from the bench" while Democrats hyped up the fact that Jackson would be the first black female to the Supreme Court and talked about how inspirational that would be. Neither side talked much about Jackson's actual judicial record, let alone the political reality of her nomination . 

 When you leave one of the two major parties to either go independent or third party, their supporters never let you forget it. But considering the vast number of times Democrats and Republicans have switched with each other, you'd think most of that hostility would be directed toward the people who "changed teams." You'd think. Apparently, the party supporters don't care. Do search on any social media platform to see anyone attacking a Democrat who was formerly a Republican or a Republican who was once a Democrat. They exist, but the vitriol is no where near that towards anyone who decides against the duopoly.  It's almost like Reds/Blues would rather you be a Blue/Red than third-party/independent. And if they're more focused on the party than the policies being championed and implemented, than the party might not be worth supporting. Bonus!
