Israel Closes Its Embassy In Ireland

Interesting, to say the least : Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced the closure of the country’s embassy in Ireland on Sunday, accusing Ireland of “extreme anti-Israel policies.” “The actions and antisemitic rhetoric used by Ireland against Israel are rooted in the delegitimization and demonization of the Jewish state, along with double standards. Ireland has crossed every red line in its relations with Israel,” Sa’ar said, according to a foreign ministry statement. “Israel will invest its resources in advancing bilateral relations with countries worldwide according to priorities that also take into account the attitudes and actions of these states toward Israel,” he added. The statement pointed to action taken by the Irish government, including Ireland’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state, and its support for South Africa’s legal action against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Yair Lapid, Israel’s opposition leader, criticized the move in a post ...

Richard Medhurst Gives An In Depth Breakdown of The Recent Events In Syria

Extremists who consider Assad worse than Netanyahu? Al-Qaida (the perpetrators of 9/11) being hailed as Syrian freedom fighters? New leaders ignoring foreign encroachment, looting and the destruction of the military while turning over resources to the "free market?" Christian journalists being accosted by mercenaries for their faith?  There's a lot going on in Syria right now, and it's not what the mainstream media wants you to believe.

The "Grift Shift" Has Been a Sight To Behold

Image
Now that Democrats are out of power, Americans who regularly get their news from mainstream cable, TV and (some) internet may have noticed shifts in tone: I'm calling this the "Grift Shift." Shows and individuals who are dependent on the drama of electoral politics making course corrections that will keep them relevant (read: profitable and having access) yet blameless. They get to now be "critical" of politicians that they lauded and protected while embracing those who were once the recipient of their most fiery condemnations.  Remember: most of American media is owned by companies who are known more for entertainment than informing the public. In other words: this shift is more about securing the bag than some great epiphany.

Some Are Struggling To Understand How a Young Man From a Rich & Privileged Family Might Want To Harm The CEO Of A Health Care Company.

Image
CNN introduces us to this "mystery:" Months before police identified Luigi Mangione as the man they suspect gunned down a top health insurance CEO and then seemingly vanished from Midtown Manhattan, another disappearing act worried his friends and family. The 26-year-old scion of a wealthy Baltimore family who was a high school valedictorian and an Ivy League graduate , Mangione had maintained an active social media presence for years, posting smiling photos from his travels, sharing his weightlifting routine and discussing health challenges he faced. He publicly kept track of nearly 300 books he had read or wanted to read, even posting a favorable review of the Unabomber manifesto on a book website. But then, during the summer, Mangione appeared to stop posting online, prompting worried messages from some of his friends. “Nobody has heard from you in months, and apparently your family is looking for you,” one user posted on X in October, tagging an account belonging to Mangi...

Apparently, The Death of a Healthcare CEO Is One Of The Things That Can Bring The American Left and Right Together. (W/UPDATE)

Image
Not since the days of Occupy Wall Street (which equally freaked the 1% out) have I seen a story bring the left and right together on a foundation of class politics. Maybe it has something to do with healthcare horror stories penetrating normal American political ideologies. Whatever the cause, it's got healthcare CEOs in a panic . And changing their policie s.  UPDATE: The suspect has apparently been caught . The trial should be interesting.

We Can Stop Pretending That Democrats (or Republicans) Are Trying to "Help."

Between Kamala Harris' staff acting completely vacant  and  Cenk Uygur doing a 180 on MAGA , from fear being used yet again as a prime motivator for the Black vote to some people taking another look at what Bernie Sanders was trying to tell people back in 2016 , it's become all to clear that "Democrats vs Republicans" is, to paraphrase Chris Hedges , really "Corporatists vs Oligarchs;" two factions of capitalists battling it out over who gets to absorb and abuse the wealth of the working class and poor.  Justice Democrats was a failure; the "Squad" - a loose collection of quasi-progressive Democrats spurned on by Kyle Kulinski and Cenk Uygur - was quickly co-opted. Movement for a People's Party fell under the weight of allegations against it's leader who - allegations aside - did nothing to built a state/local powerbase and eventually left to help Robert Kennedy Jr.'s campaign (and continues to support the latter's political caree...

In a surprise late-night TV address, Yoon said the move was needed to protect the country from anti-state activities. He also accused the opposition of being sympathetic with North Korea. Yoon took office in 2022, and faces a parliament dominated by the opposition. He has been struggling with low approval ratings and has been involved in scandals, including some involving his wife. On His Way Out, Joe Biden Pardons His Son.

Image
Via CNN : President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he has pardoned his son Hunter Biden, who faced sentencing this month on gun crime and tax convictions, marking a reversal as he prepares to leave office. “Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter,” he said in a statement. It is a “full and unconditional pardon,” according to a copy of the executive grant of clemency. This official grant of clemency cannot be rescinded by President-elect Donald Trump. By pardoning his son, Joe Biden has reneged on a public promise that he made repeatedly before and after dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. The president and his top White House spokesperson have said unequivocally, including after Trump won the 2024 election, that he would not pardon Hunter Biden or commute his sentence. The pardon means Hunter Biden won’t be sentenced for his crimes, and it eliminates any chance of his being sent to prison, which was a possibility. Once the judges overseeing his cases are notified of t...

Netanyahu Enters The Bargaining Stage.

Image
From CNN : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday offered $5 million and safe passage out of Gaza to anyone returning a hostage. “To those who want to leave this entanglement I say: Whoever brings us a hostage will find a safe way out for himself and his family. We will also give $5 million for every hostage,” Netanyahu said. “Choose, the choice is yours, but the result will be the same. We will bring them all back.” Speaking at the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza alongside Defense Minister Israel Katz, Netanyahu added that whoever harmed a hostage would “pay the price.” His announcement was met with outrage from the mother of Matan Zangauker, one of the hostages still held in Gaza. “The prime minister is trading the hostages’ lives,” said Einav Zangauker. She criticized Netanyahu for “offering money to Hamas” and said his attempt to “divide and rule in Gaza through bribes to the captors” would put the hostages at risk. “It’s unbelievable that the man who funded Hamas i...

Jason Hickel's Post on Liberal Capitalism.

Greg Stoker spoke on this, but here's the text from Jason Hickel's post : The problem with liberalism is that it rests on a fundamental contradiction that cannot be resolved. It will always fail, it will always collapse, and this explains everything about our current moment. Liberals try to hold two commitments at once: on the one hand, they are firmly committed to capitalism; on the other, they express support for principles like human rights, democracy, equality, freedom of speech, environment and the rule of law.  This duality is the core of liberalism. But there's a problem. Capital accumulation requires cheapening labour and nature. This eventually comes into direct conflict with principles like rights and equality. And whenever this conflict appears, the liberal ruling class sides with capital, abandons their lofty principles, and throws workers and nature under the bus.  Every. Single. Time. This results in flagrant displays of hypocrisy. They run on nice-soundin...

So...What Happened? (2024 US Elections)

Image
If I were to sum up in one word: "capitalism." The voters responded to capitalism. Capitalism is what got Barack Obama into office. Capitalism is what made voters decide to give Donald Trump a change in 2016. Capitalism is what ultimately undermined Trump in 2020, allowing Joe Biden to slip in, and capitalism made voters give Trump another another chance for 2024. Wall Street was behind Obama, as was most of the people because of what Obama promised (albeit vaguely). After Obama was found to be less-than trustworthy ( in particular to black Americans ) on the economic front, Hillary Clinton appeared to be an extension of those policies which was unappealing to voters. Trump gets in, but gives tax breaks to rich (while also raising taxes on non-rich voters) and fumbles handling the pandemic (which costs businesses money). Biden promised to fix things, and while the pandemic greatly eased (yet not been completely eradicated) Biden also said that "nothing will fundamentall...

Netanyahu Fires Defense Minister; Replacement Is "A Political Ally" Who "Lacks "Extensive Military Experience."

Via CNN : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant after months of clashes over domestic politics and Israel’s war efforts. In a recorded statement Tuesday evening, Netanyahu said that “trust between me and the minister of defense has cracked.” Israel Katz, currently the foreign minister, will become defense minister. Gideon Sa’ar will replace Katz as foreign minister, the prime minister’s office said Tuesday. Neither has extensive military experience, though Katz has served in the cabinet throughout the war. The move came as voters in the United States, Israel’s most important ally, voted for their next president. Gallant is a close interlocutor for the US administration, and has been said to have daily conversations with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. The reshuffle happened at a crucial moment for Israel, which is fighting bloody wars in Gaza and Lebanon while awaiting a potential retaliatory attack from Iran. Gallant responded to the deci...

NPR has reached out to the woman named in the permit. According to the permit shared with NPR, the statue is called The Resolute Desk and is meant to represent the heart of democracy. Early Voting Ballot Boxes In Washington & Oregon Attacked.

Image
Via CNN : With just days until Election Day, hundreds of ballots were destroyed by fires this week at two ballot drop boxes in the Pacific Northwest, and investigators are searching for a culprit they say is responsible for both. Many of the ballots in a drop box in Portland were unaffected, but hundreds of ballots were destroyed in a second ballot box fire in nearby Vancouver, Washington, election officials said. The incidents are believed to be related to a third incident earlier this month in Vancouver. The incidents come as a US Department of Homeland Security bulletin from September obtained by the watchdog group Property of the People warned, “Some social media users are discussing and encouraging various methods of sabotaging ballot drop boxes and avoiding detection, likely heightening the potential for targeting of this election infrastructure through the 2024 election cycle. “Election infrastructure remains an attractive target for some domestic violent extremists and other th...

In Trying to Convince the Left to Vote For Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders Omits The Reality.

Image
We can at least say that an attempt was made: Sadly, "Trump is worse" is not sufficient enough when the alternative to "opening supporting genocide" is, "passively endorsing genocide." And on the issue of Gaza, the West Bank and the Palestinian people that's the difference between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.  Never mind that Harris's latest response to American voters who are concerned about genocide is basically: " You should worry more about being able to afford groceries ." Here's Sanders' "plan" for dealing with PM Benjamin Netanyahu (either by coercing him or replacing him): An immediate ceasefire;  The return of all hostages;  A surge of massive humanitarian aid;  The stopping of settler attacks on the West Bank;  The rebuilding of Gaza for the Palestinian people. So let's address these points, shall we? Neither Netanyahu nor his political party wish for a ceasefire . The return of hostages is not as impo...
