What a Difference 8+ Years Makes

The GOP has gone from a George W. Bush celebrating a war he didn't know how to manage, justify or resolve in a G.I. Joe uniform to Sarah Palin dressing up like a biker version of the Baroness in order to trick some rubes into thinking she's going to give up all the money she's getting for being a political celebrity to run for President.

CPC Budget Promotion Watch, 4/12/11

An update from the previous entry : Oliver Willis highlights the CPC Budget, and reminds us that it all be for naught if they don't push this thing. Update : Cenk Uygur also mentioned the Budget on his TV show, but I haven't found a link yet ( it doesn't help that MSNBC does not have his show on their official programs schedule ). He said it was the best option out there, but also talked a little bit about the (lack of) PR effort.

Oliver Willis Nails It

I agree with him in that some people forgot that the 2010 midterm election gave the GOP the House of Representatives, and there were consequences for that . One of those consequences was this wacky week of an almost shutdown. As one Democratic Congressman put it: the GOP controls one third of the government right now, and that fact can't be ignored. And yes, the Democrats are afraid that if they stall and obstruct like the GOP did they'll loose more seats in Congress and maybe even the White House. Why? Because honestly, whatever goes on in DC is viewed through a conservative prism. As much as liberals and progressives complain about the wishy-washiness of the Democrats ( and they have conceded things they didn't need to ) the fact is the media has been and will continue to spin it as if the GOP deserves a voice and the benefit of the doubt. Which considering that the GOP is responsible for much of our current financial and economical problems is amazing. That being said, a...

Dr. D'oh

As Oliver and TPM both note, MD has a new representative who is complaining about not getting his job-related government health care. The irony/hypocrisy of this story is that he ran against "Obamacare," which he once called "entitlement." I'm longing for the day when a majority of our representatives actually practice what they preach (or preach against).

Quote Of The Day

Because science has inconveniently declined to back-up any of their fantasies, science has been completely discounted. According to Pew Research only six percent of scientists consider themselves Republicans. Think about that. Sarah Palin didn't do that. It took decades of work to reach this point even if it wasn't until the last eight years that we truly saw the national ignorance weaponized by complete Republican control. Only three percent of blacks voted for McCain, a number similar to what Bush the Younger received. That didn't happen overnight. A higher percentage of Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than Democrats. But years of bitching about social programs that benefitted a community just emerging from the yoke of Jim Crow drove blacks away from the Party of Lincoln. In this decade it has been bitching about hispanic immigration that has driven Latinos away in droves. There are 535 elected members of Congress (plus a few delegates), but the...

The FOX Family Looks Out For Each Other

FoxNews regular Ann Coulter overeacts to an April Fool's joke and gets ridiculed for it . Suddenly, FOX Sports comes out (indirectly, of course) to her defense . UPDATE : even Rush Limbaugh didn't think anyone was stupid enough to fall for this . Guess that makes him wrong and Coulter stupid.

Actually, the link between the 'Skins-supporting, Alba-stalking Crown Prince of Common Sense and She Who Makes the Animated Funnies isn't that tenuous..."neighbor."

Mr. Willis: I'll Do You One Better

Not only will " An American Carol " fail epically like you said , but I bet one bonafide No-Prize that " Religulous " will kill it in gross revenue. Oh yeah, I forgot: you're a DC Comics Guy. No-Prize .

Some *Real* Joementum: Things About Joe Biden

A few things I found around the 'Nets concerning the newly chosen VP Joe Biden: Kos may not be exactly jumping for joy over the choice, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the Daily Kos community feels the same. In fact, one noted member has a video collection of key Biden moments . Howard Fineman calls Biden " the anti-Dick Cheney ," and with good reason. A member of Democratic Underground has a great list of Biden facts . Oliver Willis reminds us that Biden had a role in keeping our Supreme Court (somewhat) clinically sane . Now I've had my own comments on Biden recently and in the past, but I'll go over those later...

Minority Report

Going by the scene shots that Oliver Willis has , the report is: there are no minorities.

Beware the Stupid, Uninformed Conservative.

When you attack someone like Barack Obama for "meeting with terrorists," make sure said "terrorist" isn't in pictures with the current President of the United States .

Intrepid blogger Oliver Willis has the details . Seriously, after banking everything on Super Tuesday...and latent bigotry...and presumed party loyalty...what does she have left?

Interesting, Juicy Bit of Information on John McCain Via Arianna Huffington

Ms. Huffington was on Bill Press this morning and they were swapping John McCain stories while talking about their respective books. She revealed that McCain told her that he did not vote for George W. Bush in 2000. Assuming that Huffington's memory is accurate, this means one of three things: John McCain lied to her. If this is the case, I don't see why any reasonable person would vote for/support such a dishonest person. John McCain had one of his memory laspes. If this is true, I'd be worried if I was a part of his campaign because I'd be thinking, " What else has this guys said to people ?" John McCain was of sound mind and body, andwas being honest. If this is the line, it makes his conversation from "maverick" to "sellout" all the more interesting. Also, Press had a story of how he was at the GOP Convention in 2000 and talked to McCain about that year's GOP Primary (him vs Bush). Press asked about the infamous Karl Rove-led push p...
