Johnstone is correct about the size of "the machine" being too big to be challenged by any one person and that too many people, while frustrated, are still invested in the system to really want to fight back.

I'd add what Chris Hedges once said: it will also require a significant amount of the military/police element to join a revolution (i.e., they need to recognize that they have more in common with the working class than the elites they have been hired to protect from the working class).
