 As we near the mid-terms and after that the inevitable politics-as-sports push to support either Democrats or Republicans for 2024, people will get in front of cameras and microphones and try to convince you that there are stark differences between the parties.  Now while anyone who's been through at least three difference presidents ( or just pays attention ) can debunk this (for pretty much the lifespan of every American, none of us have experience three back-to-back-to-back Democratic or Republican presidents) we sadly have a country full of short memories and easily propagandized psyches.  Case in Point: the 1984 Presidential Election : Reagan won in an electoral college landslide and with 58% of the popular vote. As in most elections, you can trace some of that other 42% to counties that are heavily urban, but as the map suggests, Reagan enjoyed crazy crossover appeal.   This Twitter thread is from August 2021 , and it hasn't gotten any better. There is a reason the guy is polling so badly , especially on economics. Erasing student loan debt, passing Medicare For All, giving Americans a $2,000 stimulus check, pushing for a national minimum wage increase to $15/hr; these things would have improved the economic well-being of millions of Americans and allowed the Democrats to cruise to re-election.  UPDATE: a better way to read that thread . 

Basically: Republican president rarely ask if they can do something, and Democratic president come up with excuses why they can't do anything.  Except increasing the military budget. They all agree to do that. Also, Democrats are very good with coming up with "liberal" arguments to do thing Republicans get pushback for even suggesting ( Crime Bill , Telecommunications Act , etc.)

Scandals ? His put Clinton's and Bush's to shame . Screwed-Up Economy ? Started under him , but if your were rich back then you're even wealthier now. Declining Middle Class ? If you believe that having strong unions meant having a strong Middle Class, then yes .  The AIDS epidemic ? He didn't create it, but he ignored it until it was no longer a "gay person disease." The War On Terror ? In a strange twisted way, Bush was stuck trying to clean up a mess Reagan started . (Bonus points for using the then-revered Osama bin Laden for help).  The Rise in Gun Violence/Gun-Related Crime ? His policies kicked the crazy and mentally unstable people out of the hospitals an onto the street , and made it harder for them (or any potentially new patients) to get back in. Remember how the NRA is on this "it's not the guns we should blame for all of these mass shootings, it's that crazy people who get the guns" shtick? Ever wonder where the crazy peo...

Unfortunately some people (including the media) refuse to except the truth .
