Questions About Gary William's Maryland Terrapins

Why did it take "Recruitmentgate" to motivate the team? Good recruits or not, this team was always good enough to make the damn Tourney. But that didn't change the fact that they lost to some fairly weak teams.

It seems that only after people starting talking about whether Gary was getting the right players that the team rallied and made some sort of run. Yes, the guy's an awesome coach, but does he have to get so much media and fan pressure in order for him (and the team) to perform? And if so, why?

And also: does this mean next year someone has to attack Gary's ability to coach in order for the team to get into the Tourney?
