Word. Now the question is: can he make up for lost time and salvage this thing?

What it all boils down to is two things: he didn't rely on enough people to help him, and most of the people he did rely on have their own agenda (which doesn't necessarily involve helping him). Personally I think he needs to call Bill Clinton, Howard Dean, Elizabeth Edwards and Bill Richardson and beg them to help with a cross-country Health-Care Reform Tour. He needs likable, recognizable point people who support him. It ain't the Blue Dogs and it won't ever be a significant number of Congressional Republicans.
