" Look, look, Argentina is fighting for its life, young lady. You don’t know anything about it. You know what that means? They’re fighting for their life. Nothing’s benefiting Argentina. They’re fighting for their life. You understand what that means? They have no money, they have no anything, they’re fighting so hard to survive. If I can help them survive in a free world — I happen to like the president of Argentina, I think he’s trying to do the best he can. But don’t make it sound like they’re doing great. They are dying. "  -- President Trump's response to a reporter asking how bailing out Argentina benefits Americans specifically American farmers . " Experts assembled by the United Nations have detailed Rwanda’s illegal exploitation of Congo’s rare minerals. And now, with global attention focused elsewhere, Rwanda has escalated its aggression — seemingly knowing that no meaningful consequences are likely to follow. " -- Dr. Denis Mukwege of the Congo, who ...

Israel Bombs a Christian Hospital, and Only One Mainstream Media Host Covered It

Of course, the other 35 hospitals that were bombed weren't covered so I guess this is progress:

Sabby Sabbs: Kamala Harris' Dropping Poll Numbers Causes MSNBC To Come After Third Parties

They say, "There's only two choices" but always fail to articulate the role they play in creating that environment:

Reminder: American Mainstream Media Are Gatekeepers For The Two-Party System

Image
Whether it's ex-GOP Congressman Joe Scarborough complaining about Jill Stein, or CNN letting Democrat Congressman James Clyburn write a piece claiming that because third partis haven't won people shouldn't support them , the mainstream media is all in for discouraging voters from supporting candidates and/or parties that are outside the duopoly.

MSNBC Going to the 9/11 Playbook?

Since the Hamas attack, three prominent Muslim anchors (Mehdi Hasan, Ayman Mohieddine and Ali Velshi) have not been seen or heard of.  The Business Standard reports that they were " quietly taken out of the anchor's chair " for no clear reason, but speculation is that their faith were perceived to be a conflict of interest as their role as journalists.

The Push to End Remote Work Increases.

W hether it's JP Morgan , Google or Amazon , the big companies who should be thinking about how they treat their employees better have decided to lament how in-person collaboration is the key to their success, and sharing ideas virtually is problematic. Never mind that attitudes seemed to change after the COVID aid ran out , or when people started using that extra time from driving or being in public transportation to spend time with their families (and in the later, some of them decided they didn't want to spend more time with families!). Or that working from home has shown to be more productive .  Maybe it's the fact people were learning things and doing things the CEOs of these companies may not approve.  Here's a solution for the anti-work-from-home crowd : pay employees for their commuting to work: gas, car maintenance, parking. If you're saying that they must physically be there, those workers who are leaving an already suitable work environment at home sh...

The Mainstream Critiques Against Dr. West's Presidential Bid Will Not Be Logical

Image
There will be a few legit ones; in addition to some of the " cons " I listed. One, for example, is that at the end of the day West is a reformist.  But instead of focusing on that or actual policy issues, mainstream gatekeepers have opted to use Dr. West's collaborations themselves to discredit the new presidential candidate. For example: take this MSNBC post from Joy-Ann Reid acolyte Ja'han Jones : First, Dr. West is attacked for co-writing an op-ed with a conservative that highlights one specific policy that Florida Governor DeSantis supports; instead of going into that policy, it's DeSantis' other more public and divisive policies (that West doesn't endorse) that gets highlighted. Then West's association with the company involved with this policy is brought up as a red flag (for what it's worth, even the company's CEO thinks that this is rather ridiculous ). Next West's association with Russell Brand is smeared; apparently being a comic ...

Two Takes on Pentagon Corruption

Image
Here's Kyle Kulinski going over how CNN is covering Pentagon corruption: And here's Lee Camp going over how MSNBC is covering corruption: Now of course they have different approaches, but the story of the Pentagon being shady beyond all belief is still there.

"Independent" Senator Bernie Sanders Is Now Doing More for Democrats Than Most Democrats.

There was a time when it seemed that Sanders was a real gadfly to the more imperialist and anti-worker elements within the Democratic Party. That time has come and gone:

The American Media Is Not Properly Informing or Preparing Its Audience for the Next Economic Shift

Image
Am I talking about a recession? A depression? Mass unemployment? Rise in cost-of-living? More bank bailouts? I'm talking about all of it. Or some of it. Or a combination. Something is coming, and Americans are not being properly prepped. This isn't about stoking fear; it's about being informed enough so that when something does happen, your actions are being governed by fear. Let's start with this news from Business Insider, " The dollar falls behind the yuan for the first time in Chinese cross-border transactions ": For the first time ever, the yuan has eclipsed the US dollar as the most used currency for Chinese cross-border transactions. The yuan's use in cross-border payments and receipts rose to 48.4% at the end of March while the dollar's share slid to 46.7%, according to a Reuters calculation of data from China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange. In 2010, the yuan's share was nearly 0% while the dollar's was 83%, according t...

What's Important (According to Mainstream Cable News)

Image
If you're an American who's wondering why their situation hasn't improved despite going back-and-forth politically from Republicans to Democrats to Republicans almost every other election cycle, keep in mind two things: You don't have the money to influence either of the two major parties ; AND The media is influencing what's important to talk about. For example, here's MSNBC's current front page: And here's Fox News: And lastly, here's CNN: Not According to MSNBC, the things we should be concerned about include: Iowa caucuses How Democrats are addressing immigration Dianne Feinstein's chances on becoming president Republicans being both negligent and aggressive Trump , Trump's administration and Trump's influence Selena As for Fox News, we should be paying attention to: Black Americans being murdered while people call on defunding the police Biden deciding whether or not he'll run again Trump...'s judge lifts a mask mandate ...

Murdaugh She Wrote

It's like someone out of Knots Landing or Dynasty or a day-time soap: a powerful, quasi-mysterious family that's been a dominant voice in their state for decades endures a gambit of tribulations, some which have been inflicted on them and some which they may have been responsible for .  UPDATE : Another layer to the Murdaugh onion .

MSNBC Story On Military Disobedience Highlights the Importance of Whistleblowers

Image
MSNBC would have you think that this story about generals working to disobey their commander-in-chief is an awesome thing, because the guy in the chair at the time was Donald Trump. But what if the president was Tulsi Gabbard, who decides to end the wars we're involved in? Or a President Bernie Sanders, who decided to reduce the military budget? Or a president who decided to send troops to make sure that voters can vote without being harassed or to protests to make sure police don't beat said protestors up?  While having the proverbial "just following orders" type of soldier is not preferable, neither is the "sabotage your boss" type. A better option would be what mainstream media and our increasingly tribal binary political system seems to shun now: whistleblowing. If you feel that the president is ordering something illegal, then tell people. Don't be a puppet or a saboteur.  And don't wait until it's "safe" and then write/have your...

Nevada Democratic Primary Results Reveal How Clueless Mainstream Media Is

Watching the guys on MSNBC freak out and go through the five stages of grief during Sander's Nevada win had me thinking about an old Media Matters story I saw (back when I read them regularly). See, back in the 2004 election a guy named Matt Drudge was very influential in getting George W. Bush re-elected. A lot of this has to do with Drudge's claim to fame: being one of the first people to use the internet for posting info regarding the Starr Report. Basically he found stories that would align with his political beliefs and posted links using headers and pictures that reinforced those beliefs. Most of them were slanted stories anyway, but Drudge never met a smear he didn't like. Drudge became the internet version of Rush Limbaugh for many Republicans and conservatives, even though he never provided any real analysis or confirmed sources or made retractions when he got stuff wrong. In short, he was perfect for the era of "Weapons of Mass Destruction." Fast-...

As Long As You Don't Hurt Their Bottom Line, You Won't Get Fired

" I find it absolutely amazing that people think a huge company like Comcast spends its time telling a weekend cable host what to say . " - Joy Ann Reid How about a huge company like ESPN? What if someone there made a comment that could put the company in hot water? Obviously, Ms. Reid has heard about Ms. Hill's comments and has given her opinion on them . But I can't help but notice that her angle of commentary is that "Trump White House = Bad For Wanting Jemele Hill Fired" and not, "A Huge Company, When Pressed On, Can Influence Their Employees; What Was I Thinking?" I mean, it wasn't too hard for the Root to come to that conclusion . Trump voters and Trump supporters like sports. ESPN is all about sports. If ESPN employee of note makes negative comments about Trump, of course his sports-loving supporters will be riled up, and of course a group like ESPN will scramble to cover their butt. Because whether it's entertainment, ...
