LOST: the Return Flight.

Well, people doubted but it happened: The adult survivors made it back to the Island. How every got on that plane is a question I'm sure will be answered later on this season. So lets get into the juicier parts:

Like this reviewer said, "unlike most Jack-centric episodes, things weren't completely dull." So true. We met Jack's cool Grandpa (was I the only one hoping he'd say, "Wrong Kid Died" just for laughs?). We learn that Kate just can't keep her hands off the guy (well, at least while Sawyer's not around anyway). We learn that Locke gave him a suicide note (concise as it was). We find out that Christian Shepard was wearing sneakers because Jack's too much of a jerk to get decent shoes for his dead father.

None-Jack things of note:
  1. Eloise Hawking, acting as Ms. Exposition, didn't really describe herself in any way. She never acknowledged the titles people gave her (Daniel's mom, for instance).
  2. Kate's a mess without Aaron. Who knew she'd get so clingy?
  3. Whatever convinced Hurley to come, it really mellowed him out.
  4. I kind of expected Lapidus to be there (is it me, or does he look like Ray Wise when he's un-scruffy?) but no Desmond? Hmmm. Then again, he wasn't part of the original crew (of course, neither was Ben).
  5. The Island is still time flashing even though "everybody" came back.

My Crazy Theory:

Just like the Earth spins while rotating around the Sun, the Island is slowly but surely skipping through time. This helps explain Daniel's rocket test and Hawking's description of the Lamp Post. When Ben spun the Wheel of Temporal Fortune, he sped up the rotation...but putting it off it's axis sent the Island jumping forwards and backwards. As far as "getting people back" it's plausible (in the Lost Universe, at least) that the O6 not being on the Island when it disappeared contributed to the constant time-hopping, or maybe Hawking knows that each person has a role to play in the upcoming events there.

Questions!

  • Did Sun talk to her daughter before she got on the plane?
  • Why doesn't anyone know what would have happened to the other passengers of Ajira 316?
  • Why didn't Hawking show any emotion at the mention of her son?
  • If Widmore knows about Hawking, it stands that he knew about her knowing about how to get to the Island. Why hasn't he utilized her expertise before?
  • Walt was also on the Island and left. Why doesn't he have to come back?
  • Where. Is. Claire?
  • If Ben claimed that he was being punished, why try to go back?
  • Does Ben know about Desmond and Penelope?
  • Where's the security for guarding the Lamp Post?
  • If Locke "fixed" the wheel, what do the O6 have to do to save the Island?
