More GOP Hypocrisy
Now apparently the GOP will have their Senators follow in the House's footsteps, i.e., obstruct and block the passage of the stimulus bill.
Their main argument -that the bill is full of wasteful spending- appears valid on the surface. But then I think about to events which makes their so-called concern a steaming pile of horse dung.
One of them, of course, is the initial bailout for the banks. The one which Republicans happily signed onto even after then Sec. of Treasury Paulson admitted that the number he came up with was plucked from his ass.
The second? It's not really seen as a spending venture, particularly because it's PR was spun with a thread of patriotism. Nevertheless, it has a price tag:
Of course the lack of Republican Outrage of the Orgy of Money & Torture (also known as the Iraq War) mainly has to do with the fact that the GOP pretty much ran our government from its conception to its maturation. And everyone from the fiercely loyal to the pathetically sympathetic are still using the Wheel 'O Excuses in order to justify one of the root causes for America's economic collapse:
"Was neither prepared for nor able to respond quickly to?" Sounds awfully like "No One Could Ever Have Predicted," doesn't it? It what's happens when people don't do their homework and prepare for worse-case scenarios.
You know what else happens when you don't do your homework? You object to bills solely based on your ideology, all while ignoring your recent track record.

WASHINGTON – A new commission examining waste and corruption in wartime contracts is getting a grim report from government watchdogs who say poor planning, weak oversight and greed combined to soak U.S. taxpayers and undermine American forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Stuart Bowen, the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, says U.S. taxpayers have paid nearly $51 billion for a wide array of projects in Iraq — from training the Iraqi army and police to rebuilding the country's oil, electric, justice, health and transportation sectors.

The U.S. government "was neither prepared for nor able to respond quickly to the ever-changing demands" of stabilizing Iraq and then rebuilding it, Bowen said in his written testimony. "For the last six years we have been on a steep learning curve."

Personally, I'd say that it's what happens when you elect a group of people whose primary theory about government is that is doesnt work. Just because their self-fulling prophecy comes true, doesnt mean they were right, it just means that their plan (i.e., to prove that the government they run doesnt work) was "successful".
