What's In a Name?

I remember back when Democrats who were left-leaning were doing back flips to keep the press and others from labeling them as "liberal." The conservative movement had successfully made the word taboo (hence the amount of many modern-day liberals who call themselves progressive).

So it's rather interesting to see the lengths Republicans are going to in avoiding their own party. Now everyone is an "independent" candidate who can "reform," "do" things and "reach across the aisle." Seriously? Where was all us this non-partisan chatter when the GOP had the majority in Congress? Oh I remember: they were virtually voting in lockstep with President Bush.

I'm sorry, but none of these guys come close to Jim Leach.
