Arlen Spector Switches Parties

And here's why. My reaction is still leaning in Poorman territory, though.

Michael Steele is having trouble reconciling, kinda like this guy:

What bugs me is the potential Dem senate candidates who appear to be dropping out in favor of the guy. Okay, so he's changed parties, but Pennsylvania could still do better as far as fielding a Democrat in the Senate. Or does PA not feel like a Dem could actually win?
What does it matter which party he belongs to if he votes like a Republican anyway?

Dave,

Looking at some of the postings at TPM, the feeling is that Spector was always between being a conservative Democrat and a moderate Republican, and chose the GOP for convenience's sake. And, like most people when they make such decisions, opted to stick with that party until it became obvious they no longer saw eye-to-eye.

On the flip side, others say he'll be another Blue Dog/Bob Nelson type.

In the long run, this could be the start of the GOP officially becoming a regional party (one Republican has already said their goal is to be nationally viable again).
